Newfoundlands True Colours

I can't think of a better way to show of Newfoundland's warmth, charm and colour than a photo session of a beautiful woman around some of the most colourful neighbourhoods in St John's. Last week myself and Kuks spent a Saturday afternoon downtown doing just that.

 Newfoundlands True Colours

I grew up in this part of town and rode my bike there when I was a boy. These days I also spend a lot of time there. I do my personal street photography in some of these neighbourhoods. I also photograph the area and just last year completed a set of 6 ultra high resolution murals for a major client. These murals will be displayed in their restaurants across Canada over the next few years.

During our session we  visited many of the best areas to take photo in St John's. That is if you want the vibrant colours. As you may know some of these areas are often called Jelly Bean Row. There are other fabulous areas like Signal Hill but the wind is often a factor when shooting headshots or portraits there.

I got a nice selection here and I didn't cover all the most colourful locations. If your in the area and are looking for some similar photos give me a call. You will find a link to my email here!

Cape Spear, The Big Picture

One reason I love photography is because of the surprises. As a Newfoundland Photographer I'd been to Cape Spear a lot to the point where I had what I considered some wonderful photos, I thought I couldn't do any better there. However one morning I was there doing so 360 videos as I often do and I went wandering around as the video camera did it's thing and caught the sunrise and I shot perhaps my best photo there. I call it "Cape Spear, The Big Picture". Surprises are some of the great things about photography

St John's Waltz

As a Newfoundland photographer and one who grew up in St John's I am a big fan of Ron Hynes and others who worked with him. I used to love going to see him perform around St John's and would often go see him when he was with Wonderful Grand Band and enjoy their fusion of Irish Newfoundland music and comedy. When they were on the go they were the biggest Newfoundland attraction around.

"St John's Waltz"

My favourite song of his was "St John's Waltz". For me it had sentimental meanings because I grew up there and lived there most of my life. I got the idea to create my version of "St John's Waltz" one evening when I was out for a walk. Seems to be the time I get many of my creative ideas. I took Ron's portrait back in 2014 one day when I was out doing my street photography where I often do headshot pictures.

"St John's Waltz" is a mosaic of a portrait I had taken of Ron and 100 photos of the city we both love. I have been doing photography in Newfoundland for many years and had a good collection of photos to choose from to complete the mosaic.
