Family Photos in the Park

I've been a photographer for a long time and I used to consider technique, exposure and composition most important, and it is important, but in the last few years I've come to appreciate something that runs a lot deeper. Life is a profound and shared experience and who we are grows out of those closest to us. There is really no "me", only a "we" or "us". The people closest to us are our identity, we wouldn't be the same without them. What makes it all the more special is that life is forever changing. Things don't stay the same forever, that is what makes life so precious. 

Family photos are a reflection of this love. They are your window to the treasure of life. I've been doing more family photo sessions this year because of #ComeHome2022 and it's great to work with people giving them something which will become so important in their lives.

Come Home 2022

I really enjoy taking family photos and this past week I got to photograph the Cook family once again when they returned home to Newfoundland from the United States. It's great that a lot of people are coming home for #ComeHome2022 and I'm looking forward to doing more of this.

We went to Middle Cove Beach for an hour and did some of what you might consider traditional family photos and we also got a few walking along the beach and even throwing some rocks into the ocean. I was going to say stones but they're rocks in Newfoundland!

If your looking to have some family photos taken I would suggest going online and doing a search. You can find some great ideas, especially on Pinterest. And I got some ideas too.  I like to look at photographing people as a collaborative effort and by working together the real character of the family can come out. A few minutes into the session people usually settle in a bit and begin to enjoy themselves. It's really great to be a part of this!

Commercial Properties

I've photographed a lot of Commercial Properties over the years and the biggest challenge is getting the light right in order to deliver the highest quality content to my client. The challenge is to get the sunlight coming from the right direction as well as the quality of light. This can be difficult depending on the time of year and the weather. You want a clean even light across the area and a nice sky to fill out the frame. One thing you don't want are hard shadows cutting across the property. To get the best look might mean waiting a few days or, if it's winter, weeks or maybe months. It could take that long to get great light on a building or property.

 

So one thing I decided to do is to take the initiative and create stock photo galleries of businesses in and around my hometown of St John's which are available for license on my website. Click here to view those galleries. I'm always updating and adding new galleries. 

 

If your looking to have your property photographed a couple of things I suggest are; to do it shortly after you have some work done on the property or just after construction is completed. Also I recommend considering having the property cleaned. A pressure washer can do wonders to the facade or the stairs or entrance way.
